Encouragement

Firefighters are pretty much a tight knight bunch. Not that we always get along; how many brothers do you know that don’t sometimes have, shall we say, disagreements?

The thing is, we work together toward a common goal.
We have a common enemy. Fire.

It is not an easy path that we have chosen. The firefighter’s life is difficult. Especially the volunteer. We have to balance our family life, our job,  and our duty. The duty itself can be terribly hazardous. But with the training and teamwork, we prevail, to return to our homes, our jobs, our families.

The Apostle Paul, encouraging the early church, wrote:

“May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”- Romans 15:5-6

Most of us are followers of Jesus Christ. We join in the Body of Christ, that is, the church, in a common cause; the glorification of God.

Glo•ri•fy
tr.v. glo•ri•fied, glo•ri•fy•ing, glo•ri•fies
1. To give glory, honor, or high praise to; exalt.
2. To cause to be or seem more glorious or excellent than is actually the case: Your descriptions have glorified an average house into a mansion.
3. To give glory to, especially through worship.

We are firefighters because we believe that it is our duty to be of service to our fellow man. Not for any gain for ourselves, but that others may be saved.

“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” 1 Peter 2:12

If, like missionaries, taking care of starving people, we can care for fire devastated people, we can unify those people, and those near to them in Jesus.

This is not to say that all of us are strong evangelists for The Lord, but we do have the common good of the people at heart. The evangelism follows as God wills.

Meanwhile, pray for us, that no matter what our mission truly is, Physical, Spiritual, or both, that we will be safe in our struggle against fire.  Physical, and spiritual.

Jesus Loves You, and So do I.
